Without the film, Free Ride you’d think the 70’s was just a dream. Great surf, clean oceans and uncomplicated freedoms. So what great fun we had promoting the Better Beer Free Ride tour presented by Tracks Magazine.

The film crystallises a particular juncture in history when something truly enchanting, almost otherworldly, took place – a moment where reality and wonder converged. The film preserves this and the media celebrated its magic.

World champions, pioneers of the sport and stars of the digitally re-mastered version of Bill Delaney’s 1977 classic surf movie, Mark Richards, Wayne ‘Rabbit’ Bartholomew and Shaun Tomson graced the audience with their presence. Following the screening, the audience’s connection to Free Ride lit up with a riveting Q&A session moderated by Tracks Editor, Luke Kennedy.
